Sinead O’Connor
Sinead is the founder of Hush Yoga and has been practising yoga for over 10 years and is well known on the Dublin yoga scene for her unique approach to teaching a flowing form of yoga known as Vinyasa.
Sinead presents challenging sequences of postures that flow from one to another combining breath and movement to help re-connect body, mind and soul. She emphasises correct alignment for a deep understanding of the yoga practice. Her yoga classes are hugely influenced by her love for dance and music. She uses mellow sounds to help one switch inward. She also introduces other techniques such as Pilates and Tai Chi into her yoga class. She believes yoga is a great tool to allow one to become present, rest and be still.
She has trained in New York under the world-renowned yoga teacher and spiritual guide, Dharma Mittra. Sinead continues to learn other forms of yoga and teaching techniques however she considers Dharma her senior teacher or Guru and wishes he was closer to home. Some great asana yoga teachers she has had the pleasure to learn from are Sarah Lewis, Paddy McGrath, Danny Paradise to name a few. More recently she has been attracted to Anusara Yoga. She continues to learn this beautiful style of alignment and spirit under the wonderful teacher Bridget Woods-Kramer. She enjoys taking a weekly mediation and Jnana Yoga (yoga of knowledge) class with Drew Lawrence.
Coming from a dance background she has a natural talent for movement. Her passion for dance began as a child. In her early twenties she embarked on a dance training program and spent many years learning contemporary dance styles under some of the greatest teachers and choreographers. Her dance training brought her to Madrid, Amsterdam and New York. She learned different styles of contemporary dance from the modern to post modern movement in Carmen Senra in Madrid, Dance theatre Amsterdam. Trisha Brown Company, Dance Space, Movement Research and Limon Centre in New York City. While in New York City she became more and more drawn to yoga. Sinead found yoga helpful to manage the stress of embarking on a competitive dance career. She is now as passionate about yoga as she has ever been about dance and looks forward to beginning a class that combines both techniques.
Sinead has set up a weekly Hush Yoga schedule on Baggot St in Dublin. She has also taught classes and workshops at most Dublin based yoga centres. She has successfully set up corporate yoga classes in companies such as Arup Consulting Engineers, Dell Computer, City Bank, Bank of Ireland, William Fry Solicitors to name a few. She also had a wonderful experience in NYC teaching at The Dharma Yoga Centre and Peridance while also teaching private one-to-one classes.
Sinead successfully held her first yoga holiday in June 2007 in Dahab, Egypt. She has chosen Ibiza as her main yoga holiday destination. A fluent speaker of Spanish, and lover of the culture and cuisine, Sinead found everything she loves in life in Ibiza. Spanish culture, beautiful nature and scenery, relaxing beaches, fresh ripe food, and a place to have fun. She says there is a special energy in Ibiza. Just like New York City, there’s something in the air you can’t quite put your finger on.
